HowTo: Get iSight Camera Working in Windows XP through Parallels 3.0 on MacBook

So, I use Pidgin for IM. It is like Trillian, but I like it better. No webcam support. I don’t webcam really, but I wondered today what I could use to webcam if I wanted to. I found a site, tokbox that lets you do just that, through the web – cool!

Anyway’s, It works fine on Vista with my webcam hooked up on my Dell, but I tried it on XP on Parallels on my MacBook and it couldn’t find a cam, WTF? So I did some digging and this is what I found, it will work, you just need to set it up!

In the MacBook, Parallels menu->Devices->USB->Built-In iSight which will enable it for use in XP..but no drivers. Here they are – iSight Drivers For Windows XP.

When going through the driver wizard in XP, point to the extracted drivers from that zip and it should work! Happy web camming! 🙂

BTW – I am on tokbox now (http://tokbox.com/ScaleOvenStove), so if you want to chat, audio/video, give me a "call". I haven’t tried it yet with anyone.

Having the same problem sa anonymous above.

Got these drivers from several online sources, and wizard says “the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software” 😦

Is this a naming mismatch or something?

Same problem as the two Anonymous. The funny thing is that it works in my old iMac and does not work in the brand new one.I do not know if it has something to do with the parallels version. Does anyone know where to find another driver?

Had the same problem with my external FireWire iSight camera, xp hardware installer does not recognizes the driver as valid. Is there any alternative solution for the external iSight?

Many thanks!

Tried your driver and had no joy either hovever using after selecting parallels -Devices-USB-Built in iSight and the wizard pops up following through to automatically select it picked some generic windows drivers that appear to work.

XP SP2
Parallels Ver 3.0 Build 5608
it now shows up under My computer as USB Video Device
and have tested it using Adobe Connect Pro. So far so good.

Having the same problem. Able to download the file, but when decompressing it, it stated that the file was corrupt or invalid. Using Parallel desktop on the new Macbook Pro. Any suggestions?

Excellent. Works perfectly. I now can use my isight cam using XP via parallels. Know why I used XP instead?. I used to enjoy my internet via Leopard during the 1st few days use of my Macbook. (Cat5 cable through an ADSL modem). But suddenly until now I cannot connect. It shows that the enthernet is connected with assigned correct IP address. But I cannot connect. Will appreciate any help. Thanks a Lot.

Hello.
In my new Macbook Pro, don´t work.
I think the iSight is a new hardware version.
I try change values in .INF file, but I don´t know exactly what change.

My Hardware ID. iSight:

USBVID_05AC&PID_8507&Rev_0419&MI_02
USBVID_05AC&PID_8507&MI_02

Any help.

%iSight.DeviceDesc%=iSight,USBVID_05AC&PID;_8502&MI;_02

just beneath the last line under the [Apple] section. Comes up as a ‘Imaging devices’ and a problem – with Apple Built-in iSight.. .. but the device still works great

Also I changed

%iSight.DeviceDesc%=iSight,USBVID_05AC&PID;_8503&MI;_00
