iPhone – why I am not buying one.

Oooooooh, the iPhone. Apple’s latest gadget. Well, it has been all over the blogs and media the last couple days, and here is why I will NOT buy one.

  • iPod – i have a 80 gb. It sucks. Itunes sucks. It is a pain to sync. It locks up. I don’t like it.
  • No 3G – are you kidding me?
  • Battery – I can’t replace it myself? And the battery life is 2 hours if you use it at all
  • Full Touchscreen – this is cool if you are like, never going to use your phone. How about the bars, purses, backpacks, wherever you throw it – its going to get scratched.
  • PPC6700 – i already own a Pocket PC 6700 through Sprint. I can play music. I have wifi. I have bluetooth. I have a touchscreen. I can send SMS. I can browse the web. I can play videos. I can hookup a GPS though bluetooth (the iPhone has no GPS). I have word, excel, outlook, powerpoint. I have a camera and video recorder. I can watch TV (through slingplayer mobile). I can use it as wireless modem. I can develop programs for it and do whatever I want on it. The question is – what CAN’T I do with it. 🙂

I could probably go on and on, but this is one gadget I do not want!

What is even better, other people agree.

iPods do suck. i still can’t believe they are doing as well as they are. I can honestly say that i have never owned one nor do i ever want to. Within the next couple of weeks i will be buying a Zune. Sure with the Zune you can’t buy one that has more then 30Gb or storage but hey the beauty with MS is you can normally hack a way around it….. and low and behold it is possible to buy bigger HD for the Zune which means if you out of space…. no problem! If there were ever a problem with the HD you can always replace it and not have a paper weight sitting on your desk like all the iPods. One thing i would like to see is someone Hack the WiFi in the Zune enabling it to connect to more than just other Zune’s…. (give it time its bound to happen). Can’t wait to get my poop colored Zune!

Oh and as far as for the iPhone….. i totally agree with what your saying!

I don’t think the iPod sucks. But, iTunes is absolutely awful. Apple’s decision to leave out 3G functionality will definitely come back to bite them in the butt, as will the option to make the battery fixed (especially cellfone batteries have a habit of getting worse over time, and need to be user replaceable).

The full touchscreen is nice, but I don’t like it. I’ve owned smartphones, like the SonyEricsson PXXX series, and I think they have it right, where there is a keypad which flips down to make the full screen available (and touchscreen).

In any case, I’m sure it will have some kind of keylock facilty, and scratches can be avoided by applying screen protector film which can be picked up cheaply (I use this stuff on my cellfones, digital camera, etc and it’s very handy).

People will buy the iPhone because it’s an Apple device, and they buy into the hype, but it’s hardly revolutionary. Just more of Steve Job’s brilliant sales pitch.
