MSN Messenger 8.0 Beta

I just installed MSN Messenger 8.0 Beta and I’d have to say it is pretty cool. Different, but cool. Looks like it has big improvements in contact management. You can rename contacts (nicknames) and it just seems better in that area. The GUI is new too, which is a change for once.

Vikings Beat St. Louis

Today I went to the Vikings game! What a great time. We left at around 6:30 AM to get down to tailgating behind the target center. 10 degrees above zero and we are grilling and drinking beer at 9 AM – Great time, a little cold, but fun.

The we took the light rail to the dome, and watched the game, which, the Vikes actually played halfway decent and won. We then walked back to the target center as the light rail was packed.

Id have to say it was a fun time all around, next time we know to bring more supplies for tailgaiting, especially if it is in December. 🙂

Visual Studio Loading Slow?

Dang, today at work loading up Visual Studio was taking like 5 minutes at 100% cpu. I rebooted, looked at task mgr, etc, nothing unusual. I turned off realtime virus scanning and boom! – it loads so fast its crazy. Just something that hasn’t been an issue, but creeped up and up on me, making it load slower.

'Class' must be marked as Serializable or have a TypeConverter other than ReferenceConverter to be put in viewstate.

What a PITA. If you want to store an object in the viewstate in ASP.net you need to make sure it is marked as Serializable. Not only that, you need to make sure that every class that it uses is marked as serializable.

There are some scenarios that you don’t have to thought: if you store the objects in Session, you will be ok – unless you try to use out of proc sessions, then you will get the same error for sessions except it will say ‘Class’ must be marked as Serializable or have a TypeConverter other than ReferenceConverter to be put in Session.

If you can, try not to store complex objects in Session/Viewstate and you will save yourself the headache. Or hope that your complex object doesnt use any other classes, then it will be easy for you. 🙂

New Project

I have been working a new project the last week or so, and it is coming along pretty good. Maybe once it gets farther along I will give out more details. Thing is, I find myself getting stuck on the trivial things, and the not-so trival things, they seem to fall right into place. Goofy how that works sometimes. 🙂

Married Friends

Funny how things change. Today I am going to a wedding for my old project manager at SCWH. It is funny how back when I started and met her, she didn’t seem like the person to ever get married, and now she is.

Also, a buddy of mine (Spiller) called me today to say he is getting married in July, and wants me to be an usher. In college he had a girlfriend and then was single and I thought it would take him a while to get back to the level in a relationship where he would get married, but lo and behold he is…

Things change after marriage, commitments change (usually kids happen), things just change to a different mindset.

Beer League

This is great. A trailer for a show that isn’t out yet. They are trying to get enough names to get this show on the air. You have to watch it to appreciate it. Warning – there is some foul language..

Check this out Beer League

Xbox 360

Well, I was at Circuit City on Sunday, and they had an Xbox 360 set up to play with. I played a little bit of “King Kong”. I have to say that the graphics during gameplay are starting to blur the lines of quality with the cut scene movies. I didn’t play much more with all the features, but I really like it.
