Like I said previously, I just moved to GAFYD, which is the Google Apps version of Gmail. I needed to move my Hotmail (well, actually Windows Live Domain) emails over to gmail. How do you do this? Well there are a few ways….
#1 – Install Windows Live Mail Desktop, add your hotmail account, get all the messages downloaded. Then add your Gmail or GAFYD account using IMAP, then drag the messages over to the Gmail account, works slick.
#2 – Use Outlook – do basically the same thing, but use the Outlook Connector to get your hotmail account into outlook, then drag and drop
#3 – IMAP for Hotmail – if you are like me and used hotmail on your iPhone, using IzyMail, then you already had IMAP set up, you can then use any email client that supports IMAP (read: Thunderbird, or maybe Apple Mail) – then set up your hotmail account using IMAP, set up your Gmail or GAFYD account using IMAP and drag and drop the messages over.
I am sure there are other ways to do this all as well, but this seemed to work for me.

Could you be a bit more specific here? I already get my hotmail mail in Outlook, but would love to get it in Google. Drag and drop from where to where? Do I need a connector if my hotmail is already in outlook? How do I use IMAP to add Google? Thanks!

You could use Outlook4Gmail to do this. Quite simple tool.

If you already get your hotmail in outlook then you either already have the connector setup or you are paying for the extra access, so you dont need to do anything there.
Set up your gmail as another account in outlook using IMAP, there is a getting started guide here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=75725
Once you have the two accounts set up, you can drag emails from your hotmail account into the inbox of your gmail account, all within outlook.

Thanks, I managed to add the gmail account but it won’t let me drag any “special” folders, including the inbox folder.
I definitely didn’t pay for anything extra; Outlook let me set up the hotmail account without downloading anything special.

you cant drag the folder, you need to drag the actual messages. Just select all messages and then drag them to the gmail inbox
